I have also noticed the roller coaster of “follows” and “unfollows” after a particular tweet and was starting to wonder if a) there was keyword-based automation going on for the follows, and b) the unfollows were also automated based on me not reciprocating.

Your post confirms my suspicions, which kinda bites.

Hopefully, there are still plenty of real, live humans out there who manually follow people who share interesting content.
